The seventh Gongbi Painting Works (Xiamen) Exhibition is now on in the coastal city of Xiamen in Fujian province, showing more than 270 paintings by contemporary artists.
The gongbi (meticulous strokes) style features precise delineations of the subjects and demonstrates how Chinese artists since ancient times have viewed the material world with a figurative approach. It not only provides great attention to color and detail, but also allows painters to present a mood filled with philosophical reflections.
Over the years, the China Artists Association has held gongbi art exhibitions across the country to encourage artists in the creation of gongbi art by introducing new techniques and embracing aesthetic trends.
The exhibition is being held at Xiamen Art Museum until Oct 22, and is also showcasing gongbi works from the museum's own collection.
