“亭“字就象一座亭子。亭子常常建在園林里、到路邊，是人們休息的地方。過去，人們常到亭子送別自己的親友。

(tíng zì jiù xiàng yí zuò tíng zi. tíng zi cháng cháng jiàn zài yuán lín lǐ, dào lù biān, shì rén men xiū xī de dì fāng. guò qù, rén men cháng dào tíng zi sòng bié zì jǐ de qīn yǒu.)

The character ting resembles a Chinese pavilion. Chinese pavilions are often built in gardens or on the roadside. They serve as a resting place. In the past, people often stopped at them to send off friends or relatives.
