1.      Temporarily

例：我做這份工作只是臨時(shí)的。

(wǒ zuò zhè fèn gong zuò zǐn shì lín shí de.)

I am just holding this post temporarily.

2.      At the time when something happens

例：我本來(lái)要去參加這個(gè)晚會(huì)的，但臨時(shí)有事沒(méi)去成。

（wǒ běn lái yào qù cān jiā zhè gè wǎn huì de, dàn shì yǒu shì méi qù chéng.）

I was going to the party but something held me back from going.
